Bastone
About This Spot
Nestled along Howell Mill Road, Bastone greets you with a quietly confident warmth that feels both inviting and thoughtfully curated. The moment you step inside, the subtle hum of conversation mingles with the soft clink of glasses and the gentle rhythm of attentive service, setting a pace that’s unhurried yet alive. It’s a place where comfort comes wrapped in genuine care—a chance to slow down, savor good company, and appreciate the simple elegance of well-made food.
This restaurant feels like a local’s secret unearthed—a space where rustic Italian influences meet contemporary touches. The mood is cozy without being tucked away, offering an approachable refuge that encourages lingering over the meal and conversations. The atmosphere breathes with a kind of quiet joy: the anticipation of a well-loved ritual, whether it’s a casual evening meal or an indulgent brunch with friends.
At Bastone, food unfolds as a soulful experience rather than a checklist of dishes. There’s a clear affection for mozzarella and salumi, showcased with a variety that invites exploration—from creamy, fresh curds to rich, truffled varieties. They play beautifully alongside house-made pastas that seem designed to comfort and delight simultaneously, each bite revealing layers of depth and care. The flavors are grounded in tradition but not weighed down by it, offering little moments of surprise—whether it’s a touch of brightness on a salad or the nuanced bite of a well-crafted sauce.
Desserts here carry the same thoughtful touch. They’re not overly sweet, but rather incorporate textures and flavors that invite reflection—like the praliné crunch that subtly punctuates a silky hazelnut mousse, or the gentle tartness that lifts a ricotta cheesecake. These desserts aren’t just afterthoughts; they’re a quiet crescendo to a meal that’s about presence and pleasure in equal measure.
What truly completes the Bastone experience is the human element woven seamlessly through every detail. From the warmth of the welcoming staff to the way dishes arrive at just the right moment, it’s a reminder that meals are as much about connection as they are about nourishment. Whether you’re indulging in a generous cheese tasting or savoring the warmth of a slow-cooked pasta, there’s a distinct feeling that this is a place where thoughtful hospitality and genuine joy meet around the table.

I stopped by Bastone around aperitivo hour and ordered the short rib pasta. It was absolutely rich, flavorful, and comforting. It really hit the spot. I wasn’t too impressed with the cheese board selections during that time but the full menu has plenty of other great options to choose from. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving a cozy and satisfying meal.

Cannot express enough of how great this restaurant was. From the valet, not as expensive as I thought, $5, to being seated immediately, the waiter being extremely helpful and nice, to the food being amazing. Got the cacio e Pepe: amazing Restaurant made mozzerella with the focaccia, so good! Focaccia is separate. Could use a little balsamic vinegar with the cheese and olive oil. Peach crostini: 3.5/5, the bread could’ve been crispier, it was soft and so were the toppings so it was all just really soft, still tasted good. Bolognese: 4/5 Crab and corn pasta: 5/5 Gnocchi: 5/5. Idk if it said it on the menu, but it has like a smokey bacon taste. So good. Could also use a little lemon; could just be me. Tiramisu: 2/5. The cream was grainyyyyy. Maybe it was supposed to be like that? But it didn’t make it appetizing. Also, they do have the parm wheel where they make cacio e pepe by your table, you just have to put that in your reservation so they know in advance.

Loved our first experience at Bastone. Really enjoyed the cheese selections, the homemade pastas and the drinks that we ordered. It is their first week being opened. The staff were friendly, and our server was attentive and had great suggestions. Can't wait to come back

We had a great experience at Bastone! I shared the Mozarella Tasting with a friend and the portions were very generous. Each variety was different than the next, and it was a great way to taste the different cheeses. It almost left us too full to try any of the other dishes! We also got the Heirloom Tomato Salad and Hamachi Crudo. Both were delicious. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back and try their Truffle Pasta during Aperitivo Hour!

Service was great! Drinks were good! Only thing is get ready to eat a lot of cheese (mozzarella). Don’t know how many different tastes mozzarella has so it tasted the same except different textures. Pastas were good, and as our waitress said they’re not shareable sizes. Desserts weee good and no overly sweet.
